Generations Broadcast Center went behind the scenes of the Violins of Hope Project to find out more. We discovered that Amnon Weinstein was given the first violin to restore when it was discovered in Auschwitz, but put it aside because he wasn’t sure if he could fix it. He decided to pull the violin out one day, and found ashes in the violin from people who were killed at Auschwitz. Once he restored the first violin, he decided restoring violins and other string instruments from the Holocaust was his life’s mission.
